In September, 1994, Oaklake Apartment Complex at Kuykendahl & 1960 was purchased by Houston Inter-Faith Housing Corporation (HIHC). HIHC has successfully bought and managed several complexes in the Houston area to provide affordable housing for low-income elderly tenants, by partnering with local churches. This results in a joint effort where HIHC manages the business aspects (rents, liabilities, renovations, etc.) while area churches agree to minister to the residents' needs. Oaklake, better known as "The Bridges," is HIHC's first complex for low-income families.
