SANDWICH MAKING/DRIVING MINISTRY
ONE SIMPLE ACT OF SERVICE:
8 Lunches x 12 Months x 210 St. Ignatius Sandwich Makers/Drivers = Food for 20,160 Needy Children-of-God
St. Ignatius has reached out to the Casa Juan Diego community for close to 10 years.
Our parish is the only Catholic parish which provides this kind of service to Casa Juan Diego, and they are very grateful to us for our “gifts” of food to those whom they serve. It is a ministry in which the entire family can participate, and since our parish motto is “a people for others”, we feel fortunate to be able to reach out to the community in this simple way.
SANDWICH MAKERS make 8 lunches in their homes once a month (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday), and deliver the lunches to the Christus Center kitchen refrigerator(s) (8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.) the day they are made (Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday). Each lunch consists of 2 hearty meat and cheese sandwiches and one piece of fruit. The lunches are delivered the next morning (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday) by our drivers to Casa Juan Diego.
DRIVERS deliver the lunches (prepared and delivered by the sandwich makers the day before) from the Christus Center kitchen refrigerator(s) to Casa Juan Diego on a 4- or 5- week rotation (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday).
This simple act of service is overwhelming in its impact and such a worthwhile way for a family to give a little time on a monthly basis with those in need in mind. We need more sandwich makers, particularly on Tuesday and Thursday, and ask that you consider joining us. Please contact Kris Conner if you are interested.
